NEW – SERIOUS GAPS UNCOVERED IN MEASURING CARBON FROM BUILDING MATERIALS

A new study by the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) finds the main tool government and industry use to measure the carbon footprint of buildings has major gaps. The study identified emission omissions for concrete, wood and steel building products. But it singled out forestry products, finding up to 72% of carbon emissions from wood products may not be counted. When these emissions are considered, concrete’s embodied carbon footprint could be up to 6% less intensive than that of wood products. Learn more
